Fringed Decor Is Making A Comeback: Here’s What You Need To Know

Don’t let nostalgic memories of your grans fringed lampshade put you off this returning trend.

In case you thought fringed decor was firmly left in the 60’s and 70’s, think again, as fringes are back making waves in our interiors this year.

According to French Bedroom, they’ve seen a 50% surge in sales of fringed decor in 2025 compared to last year, confirming what tastemakers already know: fringe is having a major moment.

If you’re still having nostalgic flashbacks of your grans fringed lampshades and beyond (and not the good kind), let the latest influx of fringed decor and styling ideas put your mind at ease. There’s something maximalist and luxurious about a 2025 fringe in an interior, so don’t let it put you off!

Fringed Decor Ideas – How To Style It In Your Home

Interior trends are certainly cyclical, but there’s some really fun ways to add some fringing to your interior which doesn’t have to feel dated. It can be trendy, whilst introducing some tactile elements to your space that doesn’t immediately default to standard textiles and patterned fabrics.

Fringing is a little bit different, it adds embellishment to a scheme, and well, it’s the jewellery of the interior world.

Georgia Metcalfe, Founder & Creative Director at French Bedroom shared, “Opulent, glamorous, and romantic, there’s something irresistibly nostalgic about fringing — echoing the elegance of bygone eras, from the decorative detailing of stately homes to the playful swish of a 1920s flapper dress“.

Now, fringing is en vogue once again, whether draped along the edge of a cushion, sweeping the base of a bed, or accenting a lampshade. In lighting design, especially, fringe works beautifully to softly filter light in a gentle, ambient way. It casts delicate shadows and adds a subtle sense of movement, making it perfect for the bedroom, where mood and atmosphere matter most. When layered in contrasting tones, it also becomes a visual focal point, blending whimsy with effortless elegance.”

Subtle Does It With Fringed Textiles

It doesn’t all have to be retro inspired, and this is proof that fringing can tastefully be brought into the 21st century, and you don’t have to be a maximalist lover to do it.

I always recommend trying to mix and match finishes on textiles such as cushions for further interest. Opting for cushions with a fringed border is one of the easiest ways to dip yourselves into this nostalgic trend.

It’s easy, uncomplicated and you can switch up your cushion covers easily!

Tasteful Accent Fringing

If you’re considering leaning into featuring them in your design a bit more, this is such a charming way to do it. Did I mention, it can work in coastal design too?!

Chefs kiss with the addition of fringing but in a soft neutral, almost macrame form gently dusting the floor on the edging of the sofa shown below. It catches the eye, but for all the right reasons.

My top tip? The key way to seamlessly integrate this trend into your interior to avoid it feeling dated is to just feature fringing in one place only. Trust me on this one.

Upgrade Your Lighting

To keep this trend truly nostalgic, there’s no better way to reach for it than with a fringed lampshade. It’s retro, fun and the perfect addition on a table lamp or a pendant light. Maximalist lovers can rejoice!

Colour drenching a room? Pick the nearest match colour you can for a fully encompassing feel, or why not add a contrasting bold hue on a lampshade for something a little bit punchy.

Fringed Seating

Getting the edging of your sofa involved or a pouffe are tactile ways to bring your seating area to life in a living room, bedroom or beyond.

I adore the fun factor that fringing brings to these little pouffes below, and such a beautiful balancing act against the plain velvet tub chairs.

There’s so many fun ways to start adding fringing into your interior design scheme, going bold favours the brave! What are your thoughts? Best left in the 60s or do you love it?
